Code of Conduct
LMC Global Ministries
We fervently seek to honour God in everything we do as a Christian organisation that passionately spreads the love of Jesus Christ to countless individuals globally.
But no one is immune to temptation, and considering the lives that God changes via our collective efforts, the devil will make every effort to undermine us.
The Scriptures says … “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8)
Don’t make a mistake. Since we are on the front lines of a spiritual war, it is crucial that we set wise, biblical limits in advance to help prevent the moral and leadership blunders that have wrecked so many other missions.
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to clearly define our actions and inactions to ensure that we are all held accountable and transparent before God and each other as a team.
1. Bible-Based Behaviour
Because of this, we anticipate that each board or committee member, workforce, volunteer, and contractor will:
- Honour God in all things, both in their ministry roles and in their personal lives.
- Be kind, generous, loving, decent, respectful and honest in their dealings with one another and with LMC Global Ministries supporters, ministry partners, suppliers and those who benefit from the work of the ministry.
- Abide by the LMC Global Ministries Statement of Faith which is publicly available on our website and which forms part of each team and staff member’s employment contract.
- Declare any conflicts of interest as and when they arise and avoid self-dealing.
- Deal honestly, ethically and decently in all matters, including financial.
We deliberately, honestly, and verifiably choose board members, personnel, volunteers, and ministry partners in accordance with this Code of Conduct, which establishes a high biblical standard of behaviour.
We hold that God honours and demands our holiness in everything. Therefore, regardless of their position or class, everyone working in the Liberation Mission For Christ ministry is subject to this code.
2. Financial
All of the funding for Liberation Mission For Christ (LMC Global Ministries) is 100% comes from the selfless and giving donations of our fellow Christians. Consequently, we:
- Treat all funds as a gift from God – it is His money not ours.
- Do not make excessive or extravagant payments, purchases or expenditures.
- Do not pay bribes, inducements or incentives to any person or organisation.
- Only use the funds which God provides to fulfill the mission of the ministry, which is to teach and preach the Bible and lead people into a dynamic relationship with Jesus.
- Keep accurate financial records, including of donations, donors, bank accounts, payment gateways, payments to external providers and payments to LMC Global Ministries work and staff.
- Provide regular, comprehensive and transparent reporting to the Board of Governors so that they can effectively oversee the Mission’s finances.
- Have explicitly instructed the Financial Director and team immediately and directly to inform the Board Chairman if, in his professional opinion, he suspects or detects any financial irregularities or inappropriate expenditures.
- Ensure that the accounts of all our legal entities are audited on an annual basis.
3. Supporters and Those to Whom We Minister
Both in-person and online, we interact with a large number of people who are moved by the Bible teachings of LMC Global Ministries, and some of them kindly donate to the ministry. To demonstrate our love and respect for them, we:
- Treat all the information with which they provide us or which we gather and store about them, in strict confidence.
- Put in place effective measures to protect their privacy, including strong digital security.
- Ensure that we comply with the LMC Global Ministries Privacy Policy which is publicly available on our website.
Endeavour to respond to and thank all those with whom we come into contact in a timely, honest, respectful and loving way, within the resource constraints of the ministry
4. Ministry Assets
The ministry’s resources/assets are there to help fulfil its mission and vision. Therefore, we make sure that:
- Physical assets are insured as required, kept safe and cared for appropriately.
- Such assets are used principally for the ministry and that any personal use (e.g. of computers) is firstly approved by the CEO and/or the Board if necessary and secondly does not cause any cost or loss to the ministry.
- Information and data assets are stored securely and are robustly backed up.
- LMC Global Ministries’ trademarks, names and legal structures are protected and used only for ministry purposes.
- Key ministry relationships are protected and documented.
- The intellectual property of the ministry is protected and any licensing arrangements are clearly documented.
5. Personal Behaviour
Being disciples of Jesus Christ, we are expected to treat one another with love and respect. As so, we:
- Acknowledge that any form of harassment, bullying, demeaning behaviour toward one another or external parties has absolutely no place in LMC Global Ministries.
- Will work through difficult situations, such as unsatisfactory performance, conflict, etc, by speaking the truth in love and making every endeavour to build one another up.
- Expect one another, and our ministry partners and suppliers, to make mistakes from time to time and for not all initiatives to “succeed” as perhaps they were envisaged.
- Do not have a blame-oriented culture, but rather seek to learn what we can from failure, forgive, and move on.
- Understand that dishonesty, laziness and “bad attitudes” have no place in the ministry of LMC Global.
- Expect everybody to work hard, bringing their individual gifts, experience and insights to bear as part of a cohesive team, in order to bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Declare and believe that God blesses humility and unity.
6. Moral Behaviour
We accept that God has given us the great gift of sexual intimacy, and that it can only be properly expressed between a man and a woman in the exclusive bond of marriage.
We also admit that we are all susceptible to temptation in this regard. To this degree, we both establish the following limits:
- Whilst working for or acting on behalf of LMC Global Ministries, we will never be alone with a member of the opposite sex who is not our spouse or an immediate family member.
- This applies when working in a LMC Global Ministries office, away from the office, when travelling for short distances in a vehicle, sharing “coffee” or meals, or travelling long distances (e.g. conferences, ministry trips, etc).
- We strongly encourage all, in particular our Bible teachers and ministry leaders, also to adopt that same approach in their own personal lives.
- When LMC Global Ministries team members of the opposite sex do need to travel together, they are to be accompanied by a third person. If this is not possible then, quite simply, they do not travel together.
- We strongly encourage those who are married to provide their spouse with complete access to all their technology platforms and applications (e.g. mobile phone, tablet, messaging Apps, etc) to ensure transparency of and accountability for their online behaviour.
LMC Global Ministries does not tolerate sexual immorality in the workplace or in a person’s personal life, regardless of a person’s standing within the ministry. If this is not accomplished, the person will probably be removed/dismissed from the mission. The decree of offence will serve as the basis for the decision.
7. Applying this Code to Difficult Decisions
Writing and reading a code of conduct in black and white is very simple. Nodding our heads in agreement is simple. Applying it in a challenging situation, however, might be a whole other story.
Consequently, if and when you find yourself in a difficult situation:
Pause:
- Does the situation make you feel uneasy?
- Are your instincts telling you something is not quite right?
- Watch, Pray and think to consider how to approach the situation before you act.
Think:
- Is your approach consistent with biblical standards and our culture?
- Does it build and maintain trust?
- Never sacrifice Liberation Mission For Christ’ reputation and trust for a short-term gain.
Ask and Refer:
- Ask questions and get help.
- Talk to your immediate supervisor or “further up the chain” if necessary.
- Get advice and respond with godly wisdom.
8. Documenting/Reporting a Viollation of this Code of Conduct
Notifying Someone of a Violation of This Code of Conduct
It’s true that “bad news doesn’t travel uphill” in most organisations, which usually just makes bad things worse.
As a result, it is your duty to report any real or suspected violations of this code of conduct in line with LMC Global Ministries’ whistle-blower policy.
According to that policy, unless it is obviously malicious or purposefully untrue, you will not be penalised for filing such a report.
LMC Global Ministries’ ministry functions on a daily basis without politics, harassment, and in accordance with the highest standards for personal and corporate behaviour. So, under God, the Board hopes and prays that you will never, ever have to disclose such a breach.
However, if you become aware of something wrong, you must report it, because this ministry works for God’s glory, and our holiness is the foundation upon which He blesses our work and transforms countless lives.
So, let’s keep it that way for now. The Scriptures says … “now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me; for those who honour me I will honour, and those who despise me shall be treated with contempt”. (1 Samuel 2:30b)
This policy was endorsed and enacted by LMC Global Ministries Board of Governors resolution on 7th January 2020.
